August 21, 2017This is a personal blog post from our director, Stanley Mak. He was enrolled in HubSpot’s Sales Lions training program, conducted by HubSpot’s international sales trainer, Dan Tyre.
Inbound Marketing is still in its infancy in most of the countries in Asia. In view of the extreme popularity of WhatsApp and other messaging apps in Asia, I believe that being able to use the telephone to make connections with prospects and turn them into actual sales is a very valuable skill.
In the past, I have learnt from world-famous sales trainers, like Tom Hopkins, and J. Douglas Edward, on the art of selling. Over the course of the last 8 weeks, though, I have had the unique experience of training with Dan Tyre, the international sales trainer of HubSpot, under a program called “Sales Lions”.
With over 10 years’ experience in working for HubSpot, Dan knows exactly how to handle a wide variety of difficult situations that may occur when we go through the selling process. His program is thus very effective in both connecting to prospects and converting them into sales leads for the Inbound Marketing and Sales software of HubSpot.
In my view, the most important components of Dan’s training are:
- What to say and how to say it at every stage of making connect calls.
- The research on the target company and the background of the prospect before making every “warm call”.
- Role play, that drills us on projecting a sense of confidence and friendliness while speaking with strangers. These will enable us to move along the selling process to the next stage of making exploratory calls or meetings.
Without a doubt, Dan’s passion and experience shines through, not just while he is sharing the skills of selling Inbound Marketing, but also in his enthusiasm for the art of selling. With the skills we have learnt from Dan, we will be better equipped to grow HubSpot’s Inbound Marketing presence in the region.
I am now confident that, going forward, our Inbound Marketing business will have a good chance to grow. In fact, I believe that the participants in the program from Singapore, the Lion City, will become roaring Sales Lions. I will share the skills that I have picked up from Dan with my team, so that they will all be able to take advantage of the skills and become sales lions too.
